From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The acft touched down hard in grass just short of rwy 23 during ldg, and the nose gear collapsed as the acft rolled onto the rwy. The acft then skidded and veered to the left before coming to rest near the left side of the rwy just before the displaced rwy threshold. Investigation revealed the following: the pvt plt flying the acft was receiving a demo flt from a commercial/cfi plt as a potential customer. This was his first flt and ldg in this acft model. The flt had departed the same arpt approx 20 minutes earlier. During the ldg approach, the commercial pilot/cfi reportedly instructed the pvt pilot to use 55-60 KTS for approach and ldg speeds. Flaps were also used. Just prior to touchdown, the acft suddenly dropped to the ground when the pvt pilot reduced the power to idle as he began to flare the acft for touchdown. The commercial pilot noted that the appch was normal, and that the pvt pilot appeared to let the acft get "a bit slow" (around 52 KTS or less) just prior to touchdown. According to mfr specs for this acft, the flaps down / pwr off stall speed is 41 KTS.

As the FAA filed it

JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN, THE ACFT SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE GROUND WHEN THE PVT PILOT REDUCED THE POWER TO IDLE AS HE BEGAN TO FLARE THE ACFT FOR TOUCHDOWN.THE COMMERCIAL PILOT NOTED THAT THE APPCH WAS NORMAL, AND THAT THE PVT PILOT APPEARED TO LET THE ACFT GET "A BIT SLOW" (AROUND 52 KTS OR LESS) JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN.ACCORDING TO MFR SPECS FOR THIS ACFT, THE FLAPS DOWN / PWR OFF STALL SPEED IS 41 KTS.
