From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On February 19, 2012, at 1844PST, a Robinson R22 helicopter, N7508Y, and a Beechcraft BE33, N433JC, collided approximately 8 miles south of Rio Vista, California. The R22 was enroute from hayward airport (hwd) to sacramento executive airport (sac) and was talking to travis afb approach. The BE33 had departed the byron airport (C83) and was north bound along the delta with intentions to return to byron for several night landings. Travis called out the unidentified VFR traffic three times and was acknowledged by the R22, but not in sight. After the collision the BE33 was able to return and land 20 feet short of the byron airport runway 30. The R22 pilot was able to land in a field approximately 8 miles south of Rio Vista, California. Substantial damage to both aircraft, no injuries to the 2 occupants in the BE33, and no injuries to the sole occupant in the R22.
