What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
At 1830 local time on feb. 27th, 2012, N637RW, an Embraer ERJ-170 operating as flight 5124 atl-ewr landed on runway 22L at ewr with the NLG (nose landing gear) stuck in the wheel well. When the landing gear was commanded down for landing at ewr a loud "thump" was noted by the captain. The gear indications noted by the crew were: both mains dn (red), the NLG (nose landing gear) showed a red cross hatch. The eicas messages were; landing gear lever disagree and landing gear sys weight on wheels fail. The crew advised the tower that they had an unsafe landing gear indication. The crew ran the landing gear lever disagree checklist and both the electrical over ride and the alternate gear extension checklists. A low approach was flown and the tower could not verify the NLG position. Another go around was initiated and the pilot advised the flight attendants that NLG was not extended and that they would be performing an emergency landing with evacuation on the runway. On landing the crew held the nose off the runway as long as practical. The aircraft landed slightly off of the runway center line and slid for 1340' in a perfectly straight line. When the aircraft came to a complete stop the aircraft was evacuated. All four emergency evacuation slides deployed normally and 69 passengers and 4 crew evacuated. The emergency crews foamed the aircraft when it came to a stop. The passengers were loaded on awaiting busses and asked if any one was injured and no one claimed to be injured. Subsequently 10 minor injuries were reported all of which were treated and released with out being admitted.
