What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot stated that he was doing a local practice flight when he attempted to change the fuel selector from the right tank to the left tank. The lever only moved partially since the headset wire was wedged underneath the fuel selector lever. He attempted several times but was unable to move the lever into the detent for the left tank. Subsequently the engine stopped due to fuel starvation. At this point he was on midfield right downwind for runway 16. He immediately turned towards the runway. He was within 45 degrees of runway direction and at about 10 feet when he stalled the aircraft. The aircraft impacted with the runway nose gear first then skidded in a left turn of about 130 degrees and came to rest in a grass area to the east of runway 16 facing northeast. The aircraft sustained minor damage on the nose gear; the left main tire was shredded and scrape marks on the lower side of the right wing and some minor buckling on the top surface.
