From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The PIC, a student pilot was practicing landings at the Willow Airport. On downwind the PIC pulled carburator heat and reduced power before turning base leg. On base leg he added a little power to adjust his glide and the engine quit. He pumped the throttle with no luck. Rather than trying to make the runway, which on final approach has trees and houses, he elected to land in a slough so as to avoid the houses and trees. On landing the aircraft slowly nosed over onto its back causing very minor damage to the lift strut and no injury to the PIC.
