What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Aircraft was operating in a skydiving operation. Pilot was new hire and was on his check ride for skydiving operations with another pilot. After dropping jumpers, pilot was on descent, returning to field, engine was at idle with carb heat applied. Pilot tried to advance throttle to suspend the descent. The engine coughed and engine quit. Pilot noticed the map went to atmospheric. Aircraft lost power on descent & approach. He tried to re start engine, with negative results. He looked for place to land after he knew he would not make it back to field. He opted for pond instead of trees. Aircraft settled into lake tail first, 20-30 ft. from a dock. Both pilots exited aircraft and swam to dock. No injuries to either pilot. Aircraft sank into fresh water pond.
