From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

05/21/2012 – 1245 Local time. Pilot departed Talkeetna Airport for a trip to Mt. Mckinley base camp to pick up 4 passengers. This was his second trip of the day in N323KT, a wheel/ski equipped aircraft. After landing the pilot raised his skis and set his parking brake to prevent the aircraft from sliding on the terrain. After the aircraft was loaded, the pilot started the engine and after allowing the engine to warm up, he lowered the skis and departed Mt. Mckinley base camp, (pilot reports that he did not release parking brake). The flight proceeded to the Talkeetna Airport with no en route mechanical issues (as reported by the pilot and the passengers). During the pre-landing phase the pilot confirmed the skis were in the up position (pilot stated he did not check the parking brake). As the aircraft touched down, the tail of N323KT came up allowing the propeller to contact the runway, the pilot then applied full aft elevator to lower the tail, after the tail was back on the ground the pilot shut the engine down. At this point the pilot noticed that the parking brake was still set. Aircraft substained major damage to the lower aft side of the horizontal stabilizer. Damage is located on the lower aft spar, 2 inches from the zero reference (center point of spar) left side and 9 inches from the zero reference on the right.

05/21/2012 – 1245 LOCAL TIME.PILOT DEPARTED TALKEETNA AIRPORT FOR A TRIP TO MT.
