From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

05/29/2012 - At approximately 1:30 p.m. pilot took off and headed towards lodi airport, where he filled up with fuel. He did not notice anything unusual such as noises or vibrations. Pilot then took off from lodi enrouting to turlock. He was over Manteca at approximately 2,750 feet, when he heard a loud bang followed by engine overspeed, so he cut the throttle and started looking for a place to land. Pilot chose a plowed field southwest of airport way and louise avenue. The landing was going well and as the aircraft slowed the last few seconds the wheels dug in and sent the airplane on its back very slowly causing minor damage. Inspection of the aircraft determined the propeller shaft/spindle failed. Tlj. Closed.
