From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 6/8/12 at approximately 1330 hours, the pilot was on final approach near Wood River, about 40 miles southeast of fairbanks. After assessment of the landing site he descended below the tree line and was about 20 feet from the ground, the aircraft rate of descent increased. The pilot in command tried to reduce the rate by adding power, the engine sputtered. The aircraft impacted the ground and yawed left. The pilot heard a metallic sound and by then the engine had caught up with his input of the throttle and he climbed out. The pilot observed the left gear was broken where the safety cable attached to the lower gear. The pilot climbed gradually to 2500 feet, requested emergency assistance and was cleared through R2211. Upon landing the left landing gear collapsed resulting in a ground loop.
