From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Airman was cleared to taxi for a west departure at the Lake Hood seaplane base. He was then cleared for takeoff behind an airplane that had just lifted off. Before beginning his takeoff the Lake Hood tower changed departure directions to east. The airman stated that he noticed the breeze had changed directions and was out of the southeast and considered requesting to change his departure route, but after seeing the aircraft in front of him lift off without any problems decided to go ahead with a west departure. The airman stated that his aircraft did not get airborne until after he reached gull island, and at that time he felt the airplane side slip toward the island and lose lift. The right float come down on the very edge of gull island, hit the surface and bounced back into the water at which time he aborted the takeoff.

As the FAA filed it
