From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 12, 2012, at 0736 MDT, N971EW, an experimental light sport aircraft, an Air Creation model Gte, a single engine weight-shift controlled aircraft, privacy data omitted was on a flight to maintain his currency by practicing take-offs and landings at the double eagle ii airport (kaeg), Albuquerque, new Mexico, under visual flight rules. This incident occurred on the second landing on runway 17. The aircraft made its initial take-off from runway 35. After the take-off, the wind shifted causing the tower to change the active runway to runway 17. At the time of the subject landing, the wind was reported as coming from 110º at 10 knots. The pilot reported that due to the crosswind, he could not keep the aircraft on the runway. The aircraft drifted from left to right and off the runway as it rolled out. The nose wheel struck a taxiway light south of taxiway B-2, rolled across taxiway b and into a rocky ditch, where it came to a stop. The front wheel was broken from its mounts. There was no other damage to the aircraft. The pilot and sole occupant was not injured.
