From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot initiated go around while turning crosswind to downwind the # 3 connecting rod seperated form the crankshaft. The crankshaft broke the rod in half and struck the engine case breaking the engine completely in two. Oil covered the aircraft windshield and the pilot made and emergency downwind landing. The aircraft landed long and fast. The aircraft overan the runway and hit a birm about 75 yards off the end of the runway, shearing the landing gear and hit hard about 50 feet beyond the birm comming to rest. Engine tear down revealed that the #3 piston connecting rod cap nuts had come off the the studs allowing the cap to come off allowing the connecting to seperated from the crankshaft. Once the connecting rod seperated the engine self distructed in flight. The engine had 700 + hours since overhaul.
