From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Departed Uvalde airport at 1:30 pm on a 390 mile task. At approximately 3:30 pm while climbing with good separation from several other gliders in the same strong thermal, approximately 18 miles southwest of Uvalde, Texas at 5700 feet MSL was struck from behind by another glider, F-C1FB. Not able to see this glider and was not aware of its presence. Glider became uncontrollable and pitched over inverted because the collision severed the tail from the glider. Jettisoned the canopy and exited the glider at approximately 4,000 feet above the ground. Observed the glider spiraling down after parachute opened. Landed in a rough field and the contacted the team captain by cell phone who coordinated with contest officials for retrieval from the field. Retrieved approximately ninety minuets after the collision.
