From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

8/5/2012 Aircraft departed kbrd at approximately 1300 hours CDT. Aircrat arrived over north long lake Minnesota at approximately 1310. The pilot scanned the lake for boaters and finding the lake clear decideded to land the amphibian aircraft on north long lake. The pilot set up for landing and started the descent to land. The pilot spoke out loud to himself, "gear down landing", and put the landing gear down. For water landing the pilot says out loud "gear up water landing". When the aircraft touched down on the water the aircraft tipped forward. The pilot knew what had happened and tried to save the landing by pulling back on the controls and adding power. This did not help as the aircraft continued to nose into the water and flip over. The pilot evacuated the aircraft and was not injured. A pontoon boat saw the event and came to help the pilot out of the water. The aircraft was recovered from the water later in the day and towed on shore.
