From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Ict FSDO received notification of an aerial application aircraft accident near Lakin, KS. The accident occurred at 1028 local time the same day. The pilot reported he was spraying a corn field in a race track pattern with the wind from the south and electrical transmission power lines running east/west on the north side. Investigation revealed the aircraft was heading south, descending over the power lines and failed to level off over the corn crop subsequently impacting the terrain in an upright position. The aircraft landing gear collapsed and the leading edges and propeller were substantially damaged. The pilot who was the lone occupant, was uninjured but the aircraft was substantially damaged. The pilot reported no mechanical irregularities and none have been discovered. Investigation revealed the outer six inches of one propeller blade was broken off. The curling of the broken piece showed signatures of a high force impact normally associated with high engine power setting.
