From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 8/28/2012, Piper PA-28R-200 aircraft, N4922T, sustained substantial structural damage resulting from a hard landing at Firstair Field (W16), Monroe, WA. Flight instructor and commercial pilot student departed everett/snohomish county (pae), everett, WA for a training flight to conduct airwork maneuvers and landing practice in preparation for the student's commercial pilot practical re-test. After completing the airwork, N4299T flew to W16 to practice short field landings. The student entered the traffic pattern for rwy 07 and configured the airplane for a short field landing. The student crossed the runway numbers high, initiated a landing flare at 4' to 6', and rapidly reduced the power to idle. The aircraft landed hard and the student brought it to a full stop on the runway. Flight instructor and commercial pilot student departed W16 on runway 25 to return to pae. On climbout the landing gear would not retract. The flight continued to pae and landed without incident.
