From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 0115 local, a southern air B-747-200 aircraft, enroute from miami to Anchorage declared an emergency due to complete loss of electrical power. The aircraft landed at approximately 0145 local on runway 7L, but became disabled when 13 of 16 main landing tires blew. Prior to the flight, maintenance personnel inserted cardboard blanking plates into each of the four generator cooling ducts to prevent caustic chemicals from damaging the generators during engine coke washes. The blanking plates were not removed after the engine washes. This resulted in the overheating and subsequent failures of all four engine generators during flight. The generator failures occured at or greater than 30 minute intervals (not simultaneously) spaced out over the entire 7 plus hour flight. The first failure occuring approximately 4 hours into the flight with the final of the four generator failures at approximately 7 plus hours into the flight.

As the FAA filed it
