From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 09/23/2012 approximately around 1050AM EDT aircraft registration N8741M a Beechcraft BE-23 departed kennesaw ga (kryy) on route to Milledgeville ga (kmlj). The aircraft was routed over hartsfield/jackson atlanta airport (katl) then direct to Milledgeville (kmlj). The pilot reported that when he was released from atl approach the aircraft was approximately 5,500 ft. when the aircraft was approximately 12 mile from destination the aircraft was put in a slow descent approximately 200 to 300 ft /min engine set at 2000 RPM direct to the airport runway 10. Approximately 4 miles from destination pilot applied power but no response. Pilot attempted to regain power by changing fuel tanks, applying carb heat and restarting engine no response. Aircraft landed short of runway 10 at kmlj upon touchdown aircraft pulled to the right across the field to the bank at the end of runway taxiway where the right hand main landing gear collapsed and the aircraft came to a stop on the end of runway taxi way. On 09/26/2012 atlanta inspectors watched the aircraft engine performance run inspected engine for visual signs that may lead to loss of power. No evidence was found that the engine mechanically failed. Upon interviewing the pilot no carb heat was applied during the descent only when he realized that the engine did not respond to throttle and mixture inputs.
