From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The student pilot, conducting a solo cross country flight, stated that he encountered a gust of wind prior to touching down on runway 3 and landed hard causing the airplane to bounce with a second hard touchdown on the runway. The nose gear wheel separated from the nose gear strut during the landing and the airplane skidded to a stop along the side of the runway. The airplane firewall and fuselage aft of the firewall received substantial damage. The pilot did not report any mechanical issues with the airplane prior to the accident.
