From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 16 2012 at 1558 EDT a Challenger II, experimental amateur built aircraft registered to privacy data omitted lost power in the engine and landed in an open field sustaining minor damage to the landing gear tension cables.

Visual meteorlogical conditions prevailed at the time.

No injuries reported.

Pilot stated that the fuel on board is a mix of auto gas and 100LL. He stated that he buys whatever fuel is available at the airport he lands at.

Engine operations manual states 100LL as recommended fuel type and has a caution that unspecified fuel (low octane, alcohol contained, etc) will damage engine internal parts and cause engine failure.
