From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On November 1, 2012 around 18:30 CDT, aircraft N464FH, an operating amateur-built aircraft experienced engine failure. The aircraft made an emergency landing on U.S. Highway 69 using the north bound lane, approximately 4 miles north of the crossroad, state highway 16. No injuries were sustained by the pilot, the passenger or any person/property on the ground. The aircraft was operated by private pilot and occupied with 1 passenger. The flight was for recreational purposes and originated from Muskogee Davis Airport (mko) destined to haskell city airport (2K9). After departing mko, estimated 3 mile away, during the climb-out phase, the aircraft's engine stopped. The pilot reportedly attempted engine restart twice with no success. The aircraft landed on highway 69, north bound and sustained minor damage to the left main landing gear. No other damage was incurred. On November 5, 2012, okc FSDO personnel examined the aircraft and its airworthiness/maintenance records. The aircraft inspection confirmed it had sustained left main landing gear damage, the aircraft's data plate and airframe stamped serial number correlated with the certification documents, the hobbs meter read 351.3 hours, the fuel displayed 75 percent full, the rotex 503 engines data plate listed serial number 3787150, the in-line fuel fitter contained fuel, however the on board fuel level in the fuel tank was not determinable. The propeller was intact and able to be rotated the engine with no mechanical restriction within the engine. On November 20, 2012 during a detail engine inspection it was discovered that the engines secondary coil wire that provides engine electrical ignition failed. The wire failure stemmed from continuous moisture intrusion into the coils contact point due to non standard wire routing practices/stress corrosion. The wire failure resulted in an in-flight engine ignition, ATA-74 system failure.a malfunction or defect report, FAA form 8110-4 dated November 26, 2012 has been submitted by the aircraft owner. This matter does not require further investigation and is closed, reference ptrs id SW15201303506 and SW15201303508.

As the FAA filed it

NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS INCURRED.ON NOVEMBER 5, 2012, OKC FSDO PERSONNEL EXAMINED THE AIRCRAFT AND ITS AIRWORTHINESS/MAINTENANCE RECORDS. THE AIRCRAFT INSPECTION CONFIRMED IT HAD SUSTAINED LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR DAMAGE, THE AIRCRAFT'S DATA PLATE AND AIRFRAME STAMPED SERIAL NUMBER CORRELATED WITH THE CERTIFICATION DOCUMENTS, THE HOBBS METER READ 351.3 HOURS, THE FUEL DISPLAYED 75 PERCENT FULL, THE ROTEX 503 ENGINES DATA PLATE LISTED SERIAL NUMBER 3787150, THE IN-LINE FUEL FITTER CONTAINED FUEL,HOWEVER THE ON BOARD FUEL LEVEL IN THE FUEL TANK WAS NOT DETERMINABLE. THE WIRE FAILURE RESULTED IN AN IN-FLIGHT ENGINE IGNITION, ATA-74 SYSTEM FAILURE.A MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT REPORT, FAA FORM 8110-4 DATED NOVEMBER 26, 2012 HAS BEEN SUBMITTED BY THE AIRCRAFT OWNER.THIS MATTER DOES NOT REQUIRE FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND IS CLOSED, REFERENCE PTRS ID SW15201303506 AND SW15201303508.
