From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Acft lost from radar and communication by bdl TRACON at 1830 local, 800 ft MSL and 5.8 miles from simsbury airport the final destination. TRACON reported to ops center and instigated a search and rescue. Wreckage found at top of onion mountain at approximately 800 ft. no survivors at scene. All flight control cables were intact, no evidence apparent of mechanical failure. Teardown of engine after moving aircraft to storage facility revealed fuel in the carb float bowl and engine driven fuel pump. Throttle positioned at idle and carb heat partially on. Mixture rich. Lycoming rep thinks carb icing possible. Most evidence indicates controlled flight into terrain due to night time conditions.
