From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On December 21, 2012 instructor privacy data omitted and student pilot privacy data omitted were conducting practice auto rotations to runway 34 at the Auburn Municipal Airport, Auburn, WA. Instructor stated that during the entry the rotor RPM went high but remained with-in limits due to their high gross weight, and was control with collective. During the power recovery collective was not lowered, flair initiated at 50 feet, the low rotor RPM horn came on, rotor RPM dropped outside of lower limit and the instructor used what little RPM was left to cushion the landing. The helicopter received minor damage, that included bent cross tubes and wrinkled skin of the upper fuselage.
