From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The crew was cleared to taxi on a taxiway where aircraft are parked in close proximity to the taxiway. The captain saw that the tail of an us air aircraft was very close to the taxiway. He chose to move off the yellow line and thought he had clearance to pass the aircraft. The crew thought they had cleared the tail and did not believe they had struck the other aircraft. After parking at the gate both crewmembers did an exterior inspection to see if there had been any indication af hitting the other aircraft and did not see any damage. Damage to the other aircraft was found by us air personnel who were on that aircraft when it was struck by the spirit aircraft. The us air aircraft was not properly parked and broward county aviation department(bcad) officials were not aware that the aircraft was in that area. Bcad is supposed to be notified by the airlines when aircraft are being parked there so that the fll tower can be made aware of the situation. Tower was not aware that an aircraft was parked improperly. Bcad closed the taxiway after this incident. This taxiway should have been closed prior to the incident. Both spirit crewmembers have filed asap reports and this incident has been investigated by the asap erc.
