What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Per the flight instructors signed statement: "today during flying the said aircraft inbound to kcdw airport prior to entering the left downwind for runway 04, the pilot (privacy data omitted) slowed down the aircraft to gear down speed and moved the landing gear lever to the down position. The student slowed down to flaps extension speed and lowered the approach flaps to 15 degrees when he was abeam the numbers on the downwind leg where we received the clearance to land. During turning to base leg the student did the gumps check and lowered the full flaps and I saw it. During final airspeed was bit high (within the flaps operating range) and I told student to idle the throttle to maintain airspeed between blue and red lines. No aural indications were heard at this moment. During the flare manuever and upon touch down I heard the sctrach sound. We waited till the airplane stopped. Turned off the master switch and cut both mixture controls to idle and evactuated the aircraft and requested assistance." Upon the fsdo's arrival at the aircraft the landing gear handle was in the down position, there was damage to both props and the aircraft belly but not the landing gear or tires. Per lieutenant jay artale the Fairfield fire department was called after the aircraft had landed gear up. The aircraft was removed to a hangar at kcdw and placed on jacks the gear was operated and it worked normal along with the landing gear indication light and aural warning horn. The aircraft has a mirror installed to assist with seeing the position of the landing gear.
