From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On downwind for runway 18 the landing gear extended halfway and failed to lock. Several attempts by the pilot to extend and lock the landing gear using the normal, engine driven pump gear control, failed. The pilot used the backup manual hand pump gear control and was able to extend and lock the right main and nose gear only. Various flight maneuvers failed to extend and lock the left gear. The pilot then flew until the left wing fuel tank was empty, returned to Palestine and executed an emergency landing. During landing, the left main gear collapsed, and the plane skidded off the runway to the left, into a field. There were no injuries to the pilot and one passenger aboard. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left horizontal stabilizer and elevator and minor damage to the left wheel. An inspection for the cause of the left main gear not fully extending and locking will be performed by a mechanic hired by the owner with m&d reporting as appropriate.

As the FAA filed it
