From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was performing low level aerobatics near a friend's farm property.

The pilot concluded the aerobatics after about 5-6 minutes and then flew away from the farm. He returned about a minute later and was observed flying southbound at an estimated altitude of 1000FT AGL.

The aircraft was observed flying straight and level when the engine sounded like it had been reduced to idle power, followed by a pop sound.

The aircraft then entered a left bank towards the east. Witnesses state that the roll rate never ceased and the aircraft entered a steep spiral or spin prior to impacting a plowed corn field.

The pilot was fatally injured.
