What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot was demonstrating a spray swath over the turf runway(17L) at Lyons-Rice County Airport (lyo). Pilot had completed the first pass over the turf runway from south to north and in the subsequent turn to line up with runway 17L to spray from north to south the aircraft stalled and struck the ground slightly right of center line for runway 17L and approximately .53 miles from the approach end of the runway. The pilot indicated the aircraft was losing altitude as he completed his turn to the runway and he applied full throttle but did not feel the aircraft responded appropriately. The aircraft stalled and struck the ground in a right wing low attitude, bending the outboard portion of the wing in an upward position and severing the right wing completely. The aircraft appears to have bounced from the first impact to allow the right wing to fold under the fuselage and come to rest under the left wing. The second impact was at a slight angle which caused the tail to break off to the right and nearly separate from the fuselage. The aircraft was very substantually damaged. The pilot had minor injuries including bruising from the seat belt and shoulder harness.
As the FAA filed it
THE PILOT WAS DEMONSTRATING A SPRAY SWATH OVER THE TURF RUNWAY(17L) AT LYONS-RICE COUNTY AIRPORT (LYO).
