From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 6-12-2013 ASI vavra observed N1677C in a hanger at O02 with the stabilizer removed due to damage to the left leading edge. ASI vavra notified the reno FSDO of the accident.

On 6-17-2013 the accident was assigned to ASI vavra by flm kmc.

On 6-18-2013 ASI vavra interviewed personnel from nervino aero service and was informed the accident occured on 6-7-2013 and the pilot of the aircraft declined to provide them with information about how the accident occurred. Damage to the aircraft included the left leading edge of the stabilizer had been crushed due to impact with an object which caused the stabilizer assembly to shift to the right and damage the right side of the fuselage. The fuselage showed deformation due to the impact. The trailing edge of the elevator showed a deformation in the edge caused by the leading edge being deflected rearward.

A telephone interview was conducted with the pilot, privacy data omitted, who stated he and two other aircraft were practicing landing and take offs from the unimproved area between runway 05/26 and the taxiway. During a 05 departure roll at approximately 55-60 knots a tundra tire kicked up a rock or piece of concrete which impacted the leading edge of the stabilizer. The takeoff was aborted and the aircraft taxied to nervino aero service. There were no mechanical irrigularities reported.
