From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 21, 2013 at approximately 1500 and 1700 CDT, N285HP a Navion, was a part 91 flight from john c tune (jwn), nashville, TN. The pilot planned to utilize the under seat auxiliary fuel tank for 25 minutes when the aircraft engine failed to produce power during cruise flight approximately 23 minutes after switch to that tank. The pilot successfully performed an emergency off-field landing.

The pilot performed a walk around and a satisfactory full engine run up.

The pilot decided to depart the field. During takeoff the pilot encountered a gust of wind from the south caused the aircraft to veer to the right impacting a fence post. The pilot decided to fly gear down to hemphill county airport (hhf) approximately 10.5 miles east of the airport. The aircraft engine again failed to produce power and the pilot performed another off field landing. The pilot sustained no injuries.
