From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Student pilot on first solo, heading back to ogden, UT passing through mountain pass near plymouth dam experienced some turbulance and stated he experienced low rotor RPM after.

Student pilot decided to initiate auto rotation, when he could not regain rotor RPM, into a open field in beaverdam, UT. R-44 upon landing rolled over on it's left side.

Engine run rup was performed on this particular engine on July 8, 2013.

Results engine performed as per manyfactures specs. However right magnetor did not perform as per manyfactures specs. The right magnetor was observed to create stumbling symtoms by the engine. The RPM drop on the right magneto (ignition switch (in left position) was about 400-425 RPM. Engine was shut down.

Timing on right magneto was 10-11 degrees. According to engine data plate, the magneto spark advance should be 25 degrees.

At this time right magneto was sent in to NTSB for further evaluation.

Results will be amended on this report if any information is put out to us.
