From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 28, 2013 the mishap aircraft departed cma on a test flight with one passenger. The PIC stated that the aircraft's powerplant had occasionally experienced intermittent missing during climb and cruise. The PIC had flown the aircraft earlier in the day and the powerplant had intermittent missing on the flight.

After the first flight of the day the PIC had made an adjustment to the powerplant carburation system to richen the mixture. After performing maintenance on the powerplant, the PIC decided to perform a test flight with a passenger on the aircraft.

Approximately thirty minutes into the flight the powerplant lost power. The PIC attempted to switch to the aux fuel source and run on one magneto. Neither of these actions restored engine power.

The aircraft made an emergency landing in mountainous terrain. The aircraft impacted the ground at approximately 25 mph and flip over on its top. Both the PIC and the passenger exited the aircraft and ultimately called 911.

The ventura county sherriff?s department responded and airlifted the PIC and passenger to the hospital.

As the FAA filed it
