From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot stated he was flying a glider he had rented from a local soaring club. He was operating over a mountain ridge approximate 5 miles south of Dayton, Nevada airpark at an altitude of approximately 12,000 feet. The pilot stated that there was a TFR in effect to the south so he decided to head north across the Dayton valley in search of more lift. He was unable to find any lift in that area and began to think seriously about an out landing. He unsuccessfully tried to locate the Dayton Nevada airpark and made the decision to land in an undeveloped area. He landed without injury but with some very minor damage to the glider.

As the FAA filed it
