From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The aircraft was fully fueled with a fuel capacity of 48.5 gallons of usable fuel before being rented and flown 2.6 hours. Without refueling another pilot rented the aircraft and flew 1.8 hours before the engine ran rough and quit. At this time the pilot made an emergency landing in a corn field. The aircraft was examined at the crash sight and the fuel gauges indicated no fuel in the right tank and a very small amount in the left tank. The engine was started by a mechanic at the crash sight when the left fuel tank was selected.
