From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

United airlines flight 1518 originating from punta cana, dominican republic was on final approach for runway 22L. When the aircraft was at approximately 1800FT in altitude, the flight crew requested to land on runway 29. Air traffic approved a ?tight base? To runway 29.

Air traffic control plots show flt 1518 turned from a heading of 214 to 290 from 21:46: 25 till 21:47:02 (37 seconds) below 300 feet. The aircraft was still turning from a heading of 256- 290 below 100 feet (altitude).

The aircraft landed on runway 29 at Newark-Liberty airport, NJ and struck the right wing on the runway surface on touchdown. Another aircraft reported the aircraft strike.

Runway 11-29 was closed and inspected and there were scrape marks starting 112' from the runway 29 threshold and 15' north of the center line. The scrape marks measured about 221' in length. Some debris was removed from the intersection of r/w 29 & 22L west of initial impact on runway.

The following areas received damaged:

1. RH winglet lower skin

2. RH outboard flap out flap track fairing tail cone

3. #8 Slat le skin at outboard end.

4. #7 Slat actuator attach lug

5. RH anti-collision light housing and cover

The flap fairing, slat with track, and winglet were replaced by maintenance personnel. No major damage was found internally and no damage from the incident was found during the eddy-current inspection. A symmetry check of the aircraft was found to be within standard limits.
