From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Student pilot stated during ILS approach to Dover afb runway 01 on glide path at 1200 while slowing down to lower the flaps, he pulled back the throttle and the engine shut off without any sputtering, engine did not restart and the last altitude he remembered seeing was 900 feet, about 90 knots. CFI took over controls who decided to land in a grassy area near the approach lights of runway 01. During grass field landing, CFI pilot stated he had to pull back and ?fly over? A large ravine/ditch at which time they became airborne again. Since they were now heading for highway rt. 1 south/north, he then decided to bank left and flew between the approach lights to avoid crashing into a tree line and rt.1 traffic. Aircraft hit a metal fence damaging the left wing, left horizontal stabilizer and fuselage and landed back on the ground heading against rt.1 southbound traffic. Vehicle traffic going south on rt. 1 avoided the aircraft and the CFI pilot stated, he brought the aircraft to a stop, as close as he could to the median guard rail without hitting it. The aircraft did not hit any vehicles but one red car did hit the guard rail and no occupants were injured.

As the FAA filed it
