From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot in command contacted NTSB and FSDO directly to report event.

After normal takeoff from 8PA0, at approximately 300 ft. AGL, pilot experienced engine RPM surging and elected to make precautionary landing at point of origin. Normal approach and touchdown were completed with engine still operating. During rollout right main gear wheel and axle separated from tubular gear leg at axle attachment. Remaining gear leg segment dug into turf and caused aircraft to flip over at slow forward speed. Sole occupant sustained no injuries.

Substantial damage sustained to tail boom and left wing. Cause of engine power loss and gear failure undetermined at this time, pending further investigation. Owner has agreed to store aircraft pending FAA inspection. Amended report anticipated.
