From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 18, N8141X, while marveling (for surveying hunting locations in the jefferson wilderness) at an altitude of approximately 8000FT, experienced an uncommented engine shutdown. The engine was immediately restarted and carburetor heat was turned on. Then engine continued to run to 2-3 minutes while the pilot turned and headed back to the point of departure at lebanon airport Oregon when the aircraft experienced another uncommented engine shutdown. The engine was immediately restarted and continued again to run for less than a minute when the aircraft experienced another uncommented engine shutdown. This time the engine was restarted and would only make idle power. At this point the pilot made the decision to ditch the aircraft in marion lake. Upon ditching the pilot and three passengers evacuated the aircraft and swam to shore.
