From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Received notification of a bird strike occurring at Arlington Municipal Airport (gky). Reporter advised that the pilot of a Cessna 172 had reported to the tower that they had incurred a bird strike to what he thought was the main landing gear. The pilot was doing pattern work and touch and goes. When he was about 150 AGL, he felt a thump like a bird had hit the main landing gear. The pilot continued the take off and remained in the traffic pattern. He landed and taxied to the skymates ramp. The pilot inspected the aircraft and found no evidence of a bird strike. He did notice a dent on the left wing leading edge and thought that might be where the bird hit.

This office inspected the aircraft on the skymates ramp on 8/26/2013. No evidence of a bird strike was noted. The dent on the left wing leading edge was old, improperly repaired damage that may have been hangar rash. The director of maintenance, phillip byrd was advised that the damage appeared to be improperly repaired and that further flight may be contrary to the regulations. A follow up letter was generated this date.
