From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 31, 2013, N997CA landed past the midway point on runway 22R at Falcon field, Mesa (kffz). After touchdown, the solo student pilot of N997CA attempted to brake and exit at taxiway a, but felt that the aircraft was too fast, and might lose control in the turn. Instead, the student pilot allowed the aircraft to depart the runway into the dirt, striking a runway threshold light with the LH landing gear assembly.

After exiting the runway onto the dirt, the pilot turned around, and taxied back onto the runway. The pilot then exited at taxiway a. after exiting the runway, the pilot informed ATC of the event, and was instructed to taxi back to parking.

After parking, the pilot detailed the incident in the aircraft maintenance log. Flight school dispatchers and maintenance personnel were immediately made aware.

Maintenance personnel performed an inspection of the aircraft prior to any additional flights. A "hidden damage" inspection was performed, in accordance with the school's maintenance manual. No damage was noted, other than cosmetic damage to the LH gear assembly, requiring a paint touch-up only.
