From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Saturday September 14th, 2013 at approximately 0700 at Morristown airport (mmu); aircraft N17142 operated by privacy data omitted (private pilot privacy data omitted) was on taxi for departure and struck a parked Cessna 172-N (N3054E). The parked aircraft did not have any crew or passengers onboard. The operating aircraft had one crew onboard with no injuries reported.

N17142 received damage on the left wing tip, left wing outboard leading edge, and a dent on the leading edge (middle) of the wing due to hitting the propeller along with a scrape mark below the wing. N3054E received damage to the windshield and the propeller had paint on trailing edge, but no visual damage (propeller moved during impact). Both aircraft were in the west tie down ramp area of the airport.

The following statement was received from the airman on 09/24/2013:

I was taxiing the cardinal out of the mmu west tie-down at about 0700 local time? The plane suddenly swerved to the left and came to a stop. I shut the engine, dis-embarked from the plane, and noted that the left wing had run into the windshield of a parked plane.

Winds were calm, and visibility was +6M with clear skies at the time of the incident.
