From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

As reported by usaa N186US an Airbus 321-211, s/n 1701 sustained damage 4 oct 2013 prior to crossing runway 36R at taxiway intersection romeo and charlie. Clt closed romeo taxiway to complete repairs.

From mike annan usaa

1315 ? A/C186 pushes off B9

1321 ? A/C186 taxi?s across runway 5/23 via bravo taxiway, left turn on alpha taxiway and holds behind US629CLT-JFK

1323 ? US629 on alpha taxiway turns left onto gulf taxiway.

A/C186 taxi?s via alpha taxiway to romeo taxiway and holds short of runway 36R.

1326 ? A/C186 crosses 36R and continues via delta taxiway to the wilson air ramp.

The view from the C14 and C16 cameras clearly show the aircraft taxiing and holding on romeo taxiway, but I saw nothing obvious in any of the video that showed how the damage may have been caused.

Cdia closed romeo taxiway to complete repairs for what they called a ?blow out? Of the blacktop at the intersection of romeo and charlie taxiways ? The area where A/C186 was holding prior to crossing runway 36R.

A/C186 (photo 1028) sustained damage to the stabilizer ( 1029, 1030), APU tail cone (1031), rudder (1032, 1033), and fuselage (1034, 1035). Mtc is evaluating the damage and has placed it on 0500/05 etr for FOD tail damage.

There is loose asphalt at the intersection of romeo and charlie taxiways that may have contributed to the damage.

Aircraft is in heavy maintenance bay 3.

Damage to the left aft side of fuselage, APU tail cone, left horizontal stabilizer and rudder.

The horizontal stabilizer sustained spar damage, this is a one piece assembly and is being flown into ctl for replacement.
