From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 16, 2013 at approximately 18:10 certificated sport pilot departed Hisert'S Field (private air strip) to fly the pattern in his Sonex, an experimental amateur-built aircraft. During the second time flying the pattern, pilot stated that he intended to land but was 'a little high and long' so he decided to perform a go-around. Shortly after advancing throttle for power to go-around, pilot stated that the 'engine popped a couple of times and quit'. Pilot also stated that he had no altitude or time and force landed in a large corn field. Upon landing the aircraft flipped inverted and came to rest that way. The pilot was not injured. Damage to the aircraft included both main landing gear struts were bent aft and the RH main wheel assembly had seperated from the landing gear strut. Both wing tips were bent and wrinkled and windshield and window glass were broken out. Due to limited on site access it was not possible to determine wether there was firewall or spar damage. See block #43 for further details.

As the FAA filed it
