From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 12/16/2013 at approximately 0930 the aircraft N421ER, C-172 right wing leading edge struck a light pole while the student pilot was taxiing to parking.

The student pilot stated that he was rushed and stressed because he needed to go to the restroom and attempted to park the aircraft quickly.

Access to the ramp area normally used by the student pilot was blocked by other aircraft refueling.

The student pilot also stated that a jet aircraft next to the spot the student was attempting to park in was the focus of his attention and he never noticed the light pole until the wing struck the pole during a 180 degree turn to the left. The student immediately shut the aircraft down and called his fight instructor.
