From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft was on short final approach to runway 29 at upshur county regional airport (W22), WV when the pilot experienced no response from engine throttle/fuel mixture inputs. According to the pilot, his altitude was between 400-500 feet AGL and 2 - 2 1/2 miles from the end of the runway. He stated that he gave the engine full throttle and full rich fuel mixture (both full forward) but still had no engine response so he declared an emergency and deployed the Cirrus airframe parachute system. The aircraft impacted the ground approximately 4000 feet from the end of runway 29 on brushy fork road in Buckhannon, WV between two automobile dealerships. Prior to impact, the aircraft's tail contacted a moving pick-up truck causing minor damage (sideview mirror, windshield, and cab roof). The aircraft engine was not running when it impacted the ground. The aircraft sustained the following damage: the left main landing gear collapsed and penetrated the left wing and rupturing the fuel cell, damage to both left and right flaps, nose landing gear sheared off, parachute deployment resulted in the canopy harness peeling a composite strip layer along both sides of the fuselage and parachute exit point on top of aft fuselage, propeller damage, right hand wing tip damage, and with a nose down hard landing with tail striking a pickup truck it is undetermined as to what hidden damage to the composite structure this may have caused. The aircraft parachute canopy landed on 3 vehicles at the toyota dealership, but no noted damage had been caused to the vehicles. There were no reported injuries sustained to pilot or pickup truck driver. The weather was clear with no winds at the time of the accident.

As the FAA filed it
