From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On February 16, 2014, about 1311 local time, a rans S-10 airplane, N3000V, impacted terrain following an inflight breakup near lake water wheel airport (XS99) near Shepherd, Texas. The pilot, the sole occupant, was fatally injured and the airplane was destroyed. The airplane was registered to and operated by the pilot under the provisions of 14 CFR part 91 as a personal flight. Day VMC existed at the time of the accident and no flight plan was required or filed.

The local flight departed XS99 about 1245. According to a ground witness, the pilot made a radio transmission announcing his intention to perform a rolling ?barrel roll? Maneuver. Multiple ground witnesses observed the airplane roll through an inverted position and then transition into a steep dive, during which the left wing separated from the fuselage. The airplane subsequently impacted the ground at a steep angle. On-site investigation revealed the left wing about 200 yards north of the main wreckage.

THE AIRPLANE SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED THE GROUND AT A STEEP ANGLE. ON-SITE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE LEFT WING ABOUT 200 YARDS NORTH OF THE MAIN WRECKAGE.
