From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The PIC privacy data omitted of the aircraft, jeff mark, made an emergency landing in a field approximately 500 feet south of freeway 202 and west of mcclintock road, enroute from yuma, AZ. privacy data omitted Stated that he had a sudden engine shut down right before landing on rny 35 at Stellar Air Park, where he hangarsprivacy data omittedaircraft. privacy data omitted Stated that there were no visual or aural indications that the engine was going to quit.

The aircraft was loaded by crane onto a flatbed and hauled to the owners? Hangar. FAA iic met the aircraft at the hangar. Upon inspection it was noted that the fuel selector was set to left. The fuel indicators showed slightly less than half full on the left tank and at the empty line on the right tank. The tanks were sumped. The left tank had in excess of 5 gallons removed with fuel still flowing quickly when sumping was halted. Approximately one quart of gas was removed from the right tank. The pilot stated that he had gotten fuel at Stellar Air Park two weeks ago and had not flown the aircraft since then. privacy data omitted Said he was going to have maintenance inspect the aircraft to see if any discrepancies could be found.

Maintenance was performed byprivacy data omitted from vectorair. privacy data omitted Found sludge contamination in the fuel injectors and fuel system, and subsequently at the bottom of the right fuel tank. Maintenance ran fuel through the tanks several times until fuel ran clear through the sumps. All six fuel nozzles, fuel metering unit and gasolator were cleaned of sludge. Maintenance stated that the owner flys to yuma quite often, which is where he more than likely picked up the dust contamination and consequently, the sludge at the bottom of the tanks. Magneto, timing, and compression checks were good. Oil system and filter checked good. Prop blade track checked good. No other indications were found. Engine run, performance checks and logbook entry on 03/20/14.

As the FAA filed it

THE PIC ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ OF THE AIRCRAFT, JEFF MARK, MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET SOUTH OF FREEWAY 202 AND WEST OF MCCLINTOCK ROAD, ENROUTE FROM YUMA, AZ. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE HAD A SUDDEN ENGINE SHUT DOWN RIGHT BEFORE LANDING ON RNY 35 AT STELLAR AIR PARK, WHERE HE HANGARS^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^AIRCRAFT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT THERE WERE NO VISUAL OR AURAL INDICATIONS THAT THE ENGINE WAS GOING TO QUIT.

^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SAID HE WAS GOING TO HAVE MAINTENANCE INSPECT THE AIRCRAFT TO SEE IF ANY DISCREPANCIES COULD BE FOUND.

MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED BY^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FROM VECTORAIR. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ FOUND SLUDGE CONTAMINATION IN THE FUEL INJECTORS AND FUEL SYSTEM, AND SUBSEQUENTLY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE RIGHT FUEL TANK.
