From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 5/24/2014 N222PW an experimental home built glasair SH2 rg, experienced an unsafe landing gear indication. The tower verified the left main landing gear was stuck in the wheel well and not extended. After several failed attempts to cycle the landing gear the pilot elected to land on runway 19R with the stuck landing gear. After touchdown the aircraft slid to the left of the runway and impacted a taxi way light box. No injuries to the sole occupant.

Post incident investigation proved the left landing gear was bound up with a landing gear sequencing valve which had been engineered for another model aircraft but fitted to this aircraft by the original builder. This switch pivoted on a hinge which wore to the point the arm bound between the wheel well and the landing gear tire.

Damage to the left wing tip, left wing leading edge, and left main landing gear door was visible. No propeller strike or visible structural damage.

As the FAA filed it
