From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot started climb due to rising terrain. Climbed from 3200 feet to 4000 feet. During the climb the pilot heard a loud clank and a bang. At this point the engine began to vibrate, and then he heard another clank and a bang and the engine began windmilling. He elected to land in the trees instead of the rocks. Upon landing the airplane nosed over. There were no injuries. The GPS coordinates of the accident were taken from a handheld GPS used by the pilot.
