From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 21, 2014 N2754A Jackson Clipper experimental amateur built aircraft was found hanging in the trees at 167 gray rd in the town of Altamont NY, by the neighboring property owner. The property owner reported their findings to the guilderland police dept at 11:56 am. The guilderland police dept responded and found the aircraft was unoccupied. The aircraft owner was located and interviewed by the guilderland police dept and were told that the airplane went down a week ago and that he received only minor injuries.

On June 14,2014 N2754A departed from a private grass strip at an address listed as privacy data omitted to an attended landing strip located at 125 gray rd Altamont NY. The aircraft was operated at approx 3,000 ft MSL and experienced a slight drop in RPM and carburetor heat was applied then selected off. The aircraft descended to approx 1000 ft MSL above intended landing site when the engine quit . The pilot attempted to land at intended landing strip, but over shot the landing strip. The aircraft made contact with trees and brush about 220 yards south west of intended landing strip. The aircraft sustained substantial damage. The left wing leading edge and outboard section including wing tip showed major impact damage from trees. The right wing showed impact damage at various locations along the leading edge. The left and right landing gear are bent and broken at fuselage attachment. The aft portion of fuselage was bent at a 45 degree angle approximately 24" aft of trailing edge of wings. The propeller received minor damage. Fuel was present at left and right wing fuel drain valves. Fuel was present at fuel system gasculator bowl. Fuel selector valve was selected to the "both" position. The mixture control in cockpit was fully forward. The throttle control in cockpit was fully forward. The carburetor heat control in cockpit was in a approximate one inch aft position.

Pilot reported when he started to reduce power to lose altitude, matters got worse and worse. The engine quit midfield on the downwind leg. He stated he put carburetor heat on during route but did not leave it on. The pilot tried to slip it in but was un able.

Meteoroligical temperature and dewpoint data available during the time period that the pilot indicated as time of the accident, was applied to carburator ice probability chart in FAA winter flying tips p 8740-24, learning center library. This data indicated moderate to severe icing

Post accident investigation revealed pilot was operating without a valid current medical certificate: eir generated.
